Why Does My Condenser Dryer Cause Condensation?
Our condenser tumble dryer is making the surfaces in the kitchen run with moisture build-up or condensation. Why is this happening?
Condenser tumble dryers don’t need a vent hose pipe and really should turn all the steam into water. But since they run hot, a condenser dryer will heat the actual air close to it and the moisture in the air will condense on virtually any cool surface, for example ceramic tiles, windows, cabinets or even other appliances near by, or if it is in a coolish room . If it is not a high quality clothes dryer it might also allow some moist air coming from the drying operation in to the room too. The only answer is to create a lot more air flow or make the area warmer.
Condenser type tumble dryers are quite a complex piece of equipment unlike the more simple air vented type dryers” which blow the damp air outside the house.
Your condenser drier has got to not only dry out the clothes, but additionally turn the damp hot air into cool water as well. This generally means they are less reliable, slower and much more costly to run.
Nonetheless, the fact remains, that lots of folk have no alternative, but to own a condenser dryer because they have no where to attach an external vent system.
There are actually a few things that you can do to help a condenser dryer to be more effective, dry quicker and reduce the condensation it can leak in to the room.
1st. You could try drying smaller sized loads at once ..
This gives the clothes more room to tumble within the hot air and so dry more quickly with much less creasing.
2nd . Wherever practical hang your damp washing on a laundry airer for an hour or two first before loading it in your clothes dryer. This can help save substantially on drying time, running bills also, since drying time should be reduced, tumble dryer repairs will be much less common.
3rd . Clean the lint filter each time you use the clothes dryer. Even a slightly stuffed filter will mean the dryer needs to work much harder in order to circulate the warm air through the laundry. That slows the drying cycle, wastes electricity and may cause the drier to leak moisture into the room in your home.
4th . Virtually all condenser driers have a heat exchanger located in them somewhere. In most cases it is quite a big stainless steel container. It is supposed to be taken out regularly and washed thoroughly (read the owners manual with your particular model). It will become clogged up with damp lint from clothes that have been dried. This heat exchanger has to be removed and washed at least once a month.
5th . Thoroughly clean all of the rubberized seals with a wash cloth damped in water every month. That’s all the seals. (Around the door, around the filter and also the front as well as back of the heat exchanger assembly)
6th . Drain the water tray each and every time. Most condenser driers can hold a sufficient amount of water to deal with 3 loads of laundry, however in practice, that will leave the water pan so heavy when it’s brimming with water, you will spill some. Additionally, it means the appliance has to work a lot harder once the tray is almost full and the extra water will only add to any condensation problems you might be having.
7th . Not all condenser dryers are created equal.
I have been selling as well as offering zanussi tumble dryer repairs for more than thirty years. In my personal experience the lowest priced model never works out to end up being the least expensive option in the end as they will generally require more routine maintenance. On the other hand the most highly-priced models are certainly not worth the extra money either. Consider buying a type that is in the middle of the price tag range, not the least expensive, but certainly not the most costly and try to follow as much of the advice as you are able to that I have given in this article. It is all based upon on my years of experience as a tumble dryer engineer.

I found your post to be very useful being a laundry woman. Normally I will wash 100-200 clothes a day. These days the dressing counts are quite increasing as I had got some new customers. I even didn’t find difficulty in washing but the problem is drying the huge amount of clothes. But I think if I go as per your tips I can dry them quickly. First I should tumble small amount of clothes inside the dryer for more efficiency as you said. Highly informative post!
Drying clothes on a clothes horse will still add to issues regarding condensation as the water off the clothes turns to vapour and if the room or flat is not properly purge ventilated then this vapour ultimately ends up turning to condensation on windows or in the corner of rooms or behind furniture. Many people get their wall paper peeling after a period of drying clothes internally in the winter months.
Good article very much. Useful for people who did not know.
